  • Humana provider listings are enhanced
Users of Humana’s online provider directories will notice additional information designed to offer guidance when selecting a provider. Logos have been added to the Humana Preferred hospital and physician listings from the following organizations, recognizing participation and/or recognition of their efforts to improve the quality of care they provide:
    • The National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) which recognizes physicians who provide high quality care for diabetes, heart and stroke conditions and back pain.
    • The Leapfrog Group whose Rewards Program recognizes and rewards hospitals that demonstrate excellence or improvement in the performance areas of patient safety, quality and resource utilization.
    • American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) The Maintenance of Certification (MOC) program assures that a physician is committed to lifelong learning and competency in a specialty and/or subspecialty by requiring ongoing measurement of six core competencies.
    • The Wisconsin Collaborative for Healthcare Quality identifies hospitals and physicians participating in an effort to measure and publicly report quality of care information.
  • You can create more accountable health care consumers
One key element in the BHCG’s goal of bringing health care costs in southeastern Wisconsin in line with the Midwest average is changing employee behavior to develop more accountable consumers. To enhance consumerism consider:
    • Requiring or incentivizing employees to view the BHCG consumer education modules on their own time
    • Using a comprehensive communications plan to educate employees about availability of health management programs and resources to help them manage their chronic conditions
    • Requiring employees to make an active health plan election each year, thereby providing an opportunity to engage employees to consider costs and other options
    • Providing educational sessions to employees on how to use the consumer tools available at MyHumana.com
