Provider Prognosis:
Making Progress with Novo Grant: More Physicians Working toward Diabetes Care Recognition

The Business Health Care Group has been making significant progress in our efforts to increase the number of area physicians recognized in diabetic care and management by the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA).

Last fall, the BHCG received a $25,000 grant from Novo Nordisk, a world leader in diabetes care, to help ensure that our region has an adequate number of physicians who can provide quality care for diabetic patients. Managing this chronic disease properly improves quality of life and also reduces overall health care costs.

The NCQA process for physicians to gain diabetes care recognition involves evaluation to determine qualification for the program, application preparation/submittal, and application review by NCQA (which can take from 30-60 days). Names of those physicians who’ve achieved this recognition are the posted on the NCQA and Humana websites.

Strong Results Thus Far

  • Prohealth: Nineteen physicians have qualified for the recognition and are in the process of submitting applications.
  • United Health Kenosha: Three physicians are in the process of submitting applications, and others are evaluating their systems.
  • Independent Physicians: One independent physician is in the process of submitting an application and others are evaluating their systems.
  • Advanced Health: Advanced Health is moving forward on the recognition process without assistance from BHCG.
  • Aurora: Aurora recently made the commitment to move forward with NCQA recognition through the BHCG grant.
